The sun never sets on the _______(?) empire.
Hello Everyone,
Well, I'm desk-less now.
The purge is almost done. All that’s left is a table, a couple beds, and a few things I can’t quite bring myself to let go of, yet. Oh, and 4,000+ teacups still waiting for their bubble wrap moment.
But something happens when you start stripping away everything you don’t need: your vision gets clearer. Lighter. The less I carry, the more I see the road ahead, and the more opportunities I notice in places I hadn’t thought to look.
Like across the pond.
The UK, for all its flaws and fog, has always been relentless when it comes to securing the resources it needs to power the empire, literal or economic. For generations they’ve been tapping into the energy of the sea, mining interface zones, and embedding themselves in remote, rugged regions most of us would never set foot in. They’ve turned necessity into ingenuity, floating wind farms, seabed mining pilots, arctic navigation routes.
And while we’ve been tangled in our own domestic bureaucracy or waiting for the U.S. to stop throwing trade tantrums, the Brits have been quietly showing up in the farthest corners of the globe, boots on ground, clipboards in hand.
They’re often the first accent you’ll hear in an African market near a diamond play. Or the last one you expect to see driving a drill rig out past Yellowknife. But they’re there. Because they move.
There’s something admirable in that, something we might benefit from emulating.
We already have a joint UK–Canada Critical Minerals R&D partnership in motion. It's the kind of effort that could scale if more of us pay attention. The question is: do we just let that play out in the labs and conference rooms, or do we hitch our carts to their pursuit and ride it somewhere bold?
The UK is no stranger to crossing oceans for opportunity. Maybe this is our chance to do the same in reverse.
We’ve recruited their cops and their nurses. Maybe now we open the door to something bigger, energy innovation, mining expertise, cross-border ventures built on aligned ambition instead of outdated trade routes.
They’re looking outward. We need to stop looking inward.
The future of mining and energy won’t be built by those who guard their piles. It’ll be shaped by those who partner, share, and scale.
The sun never sets on the Canzuk Empire.
