Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was my birthday, and my younger brother's birthday, is today.

We are 3 years and a day apart.

Once he was born we moved my birthday parties to July 1st as it was easier for my parents (which as an adult I now understand) to have it combined on the day they had off work.

When I was 7, my brother found out that the Canada day celebrations, the big city wide party, the fireworks, the giant slab cake that could feed a small army - was not a celebration for him.

They weren’t just spelling, and pronouncing his name wrong - no matter how hard he tried to correct people.

He didn’t even like the colour red but always said it was his favourite on that day.

Nope, Canada was some thunder-stealing other “person” for who this day was about.

He was distraught. And I, well, I was probably a bit too smug.

Happy Canada Day, and of course, happy birthday to my brother Kristian.
