What the G7 Should Be Talking About (But Probably Isn’t)
Hello Everyone,
The G7 Summit is about to kick off in Kananaskis, bringing with it the usual diplomatic buzzwords: resilience, sovereignty, sustainability. Macron’s already warming up to talk “reindustrialization,” and the U.S. delegation is no doubt polishing speeches about supply chains and security of supply.
But let's be honest, speeches aren’t shovels.
While global leaders are fine-tuning their language, Canada’s mining and energy sectors are already putting words into action. We’re not waiting around for policymakers to grab a muffin and a breakout room. We’re drilling holes, closing deals, signing real partnerships, and yes, delivering critical minerals to global markets.
Here’s what the G7 should be talking about if they genuinely care about stable supplies, realistic growth, and meaningful partnerships.
Keep Capital Flowing
Talking point: How can governments step out of the way of responsible growth, while still supporting critical infrastructure?
Recent private placements have been oversubscribed, reflecting strong investor appetite. That’s great news, but only if government regulations and bureaucratic timelines don’t slow momentum.
Real Innovation Happens Quietly; And Canada’s Ahead
Talking point: How can nations collectively support and safeguard strategic IP without tripping into protectionism?
Canadian firms are patenting advanced lithium extraction processes and battery-grade graphite tech. If we want strategic minerals independence, we need more than declarations, we need real-world deployments.
Indigenous Equity Isn’t a Buzzword, It’s a Blueprint
Talking point: How to replicate Indigenous partnership models at scale, making community equity the norm, not the exception.
While global leaders debate the merits of social license, companies like Enbridge and 36 First Nations are proving equity partnerships can deliver genuine long-term value.
Drill-Ready Projects Need Permits, now!
Talking point: How to streamline regulatory frameworks to accelerate exploration without compromising the environment.
Exploration and project readiness are strong in Canada, with substantial deposits poised for development. The biggest risk now? Red tape, delays, and political indecision.
Balanced Growth is Possible - We’re Proving It
Talking point: Canada’s proving ESG can enhance projects, not stall them. Use us as your case study.
Expanding drilling programs, resource intensification, and ESG are coexisting successfully in Canada. Our industry understands growth doesn't mean abandoning responsibility.
Small Caps Are Prepping for Scale, They Need Support, Not Speeches
Talking point: Policies to better support early-stage projects that genuinely underpin future resource security.
Strategic restructuring, share consolidations, and thoughtful planning among small-cap resource companies signal real preparation for substantial growth.
Collaboration Already Exists, Fund It Accordingly
Talking point: Align international policies and funding mechanisms with the collaborative reality on the ground.
Earn-in agreements, joint ventures, and infrastructure sharing are already standard practice in our sector. We’ve moved beyond cooperation in theory to cooperation in reality.

If the G7 leaders truly want economic resilience, energy security, and resource independence, it’s not new ideas they need. It’s to recognize and support the ideas already in action, right here, right now, in Canada.
And as they gather around their tables in Kananaskis, let’s remind them clearly:
We don’t need a seat at the table…
We are the table.
