The M&E Dispatch - 008

While The Bay Department store is struggling, The Hudson Bay is showcasing it's importance to Canada.

Hello everyone,

With the narrowly avoided Longshoreman strike and now Milton bearing down on Florida just days after Helene, you have to wonder how long we can continue in Canada without significant investment in our own ports? All our eggs in one or two baskets leaves us just as vulnerable to similar events interrupting our trade.

The Port of Vancouver handled record amounts of cargo in 2023, nearly as much as Canada’s next 5 ports combined, mainly due to export. As we make further inroads to lithium extraction into the prairie provinces are we going to need access to our oceans through the North? Is there a case to be made for significant Federal investment behind something like NeeStaNan’s proposed Port Nelson?

We say we’re a resource powerhouse of a nation… maybe it’s time to project that position and show the world that access to Canadian resources will remain stable for years to come.
